County begins environmental impact review for Port Gamble redevelopment
March 18th public scoping meeting planned in Poulsbo

(Port Orchard) - Kitsap County received an application from Olympic Property Group to redevelop the historic town of Port Gamble with a mix or residential, commercial and open space/recreational uses. Prior to any land use hearings on the application, an environmental impact statement (EIS) is prepared to analyze the environmental impacts of the proposed project. The first step of the EIS is conducting a public scoping process. Kitsap County invites comments on the scope of issues to be analyzed in the EIS and is hosting a Public Scoping Meeting on March 18, 2013 at the Poulsbo City Hall. County environmental planners have begun to identify EIS scoping issues including traffic and water resources as well as cultural and historic impacts.

“The scoping process and the upcoming public meeting provide a great opportunity for public input at the beginning of this process,” noted Robert Gelder, District 1 Commissioner. “Before the public hearings or any land use decisions on the project, we want the EIS to be comprehensive. The public’s input on what the EIS should consider is key to a good product.”

There are several opportunities available to submit comments on the scope of the EIS:

  • Public informational and EIS Scoping Meeting: Monday, March 18, 2013, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Poulsbo City Hall Council Chambers, 200 NE Moe Street, Poulsbo.

  • •Via e-mail to Kitsap 1 no later than March 20, 2013:
