Kitsap County awarded "Distinguished Budget Presentation" from GFOA

(Kitsap County, WA) Kitsap County has been awarded the "Distinguished Budget Presentation" award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFAO). The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.

Budget documents are reviewed by member of the GFOA professional staff and other reviewers experienced in public-sector budgeting. The award recognizes  budgets that include the very highest quality documents that reflect both the guidelines established the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting.

"I am pleased that this is the ninth year that Kitsap County has received this award," said Amber D'Amato, the Director of Administrative Services. "It is national recognition of our continuing efforts to improve our processes and serve our residents more efficiently," D'Amato added.

The award represents a significant achievement by Kitsap County. It reflects the commitment of the Board of County Commissioners and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the Kitsap County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:

  • a policy document

  • a financial plan

  • an operations guide

  • a communications device

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
