Sunde Road Pedestrian Bridge ribbon cutting ceremony set for October 9

(Port Orchard) - Kitsap County Public Works is celebrating the completion of a new pedestrian bridge over Clear Creek with a community ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m. The project, completed in August, removed a culvert that had been identified as a fish passage barrier— preventing fish from accessing upstream habitat on Clear Creek.

After receiving input from local residents and the community, it was determined the best option for the project was to permanently close Sunde Road and install a pedestrian bridge over the creek. This new bridge provides a safe crossing for foot traffic; stream access for local elementary school classes studying the environment; allows fish to swim upstream at various water levels; and has begun the process to restore in-stream and riparian habitat.
