Village Greens Golf Course winter weekend hours
(Port Orchard, WA) - Kitsap County Parks
Department has decided to add weekend hours at Village Greens Golf Course in
November and December to accommodate the public’s wish for the course to
remain open throughout the winter months. The course is open from 8:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays November 9 through December 15.
An assessment of the success of these six weekends will be made in mid
December to determine if the course will remain open on weekends for the
remainder of the winter months, instead of closing until mid March as had
been previously planned.
Jim Dunwiddie, Parks Director, said, “We want to accommodate the public as
much as we can, and this six week period will show us if there is public
demand to use the course during the winter months.”
“The course has undergone significant improvements over the past few years
and has started gaining speed again,” said Billie Schmidt, Superintendent of
Operations for the Parks Department. “We have a golf instructor and will
continue to offer youth camps in addition to golf lessons for all ages when
we are open,” Schmidt added.
Village Greens Golf Course was previously operated by a contracted entity,
but has been run by the County Parks Department since 2009 when it was
closed for renovations for a portion of the year. It re-opened in 2010 and
has been re-building its customer base since then. Reviews of the renovated
course have been very favorable and Larry Gilhuly, USGA Golf Consultant said
he hasn’t seen another golf course improve as dramatically as Village Greens
has with such a low renovation budget in over 20 years of consulting.
