Trail clean-up benefits Kitsap Salmon Tours

(Port Orchard) - Volunteers from the Kitsap County Parks Department and Chico Salmon Park Stewardship Group worked tirelessly the past two weekends at Chico Salmon Park to improve salmon viewing access to Chico Creek. Over 100 hours were donated to cut back brush, improve trails, and remove noxious weeds. The trail work was in preparation for the November 9th Kitsap Salmon Tours taking place at two Chico Creek locations; Chico Creek Salmon Park, at Chico Way and Golf Club Hill Road in Bremerton, and the Mountaineers Foundation Rhododendron Preserve at 3153 Seabeck Hwy, Bremerton. At each location, salmon experts will give presentations every hour between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 9th.

“It’s an exciting time to visit Chico Creek,” said Lori Raymaker, Kitsap County Parks Stewardship Coordinator, “The salmon are swimming and jumping. Hopefully the volunteer projects completed on the trails over the past two weeks will help make it easier for people to come and experience the salmon’s exciting annual trek upstream.”

The two events are sponsored by the Kitsap County Parks Department, Kitsap County Surface and Storm Water Management, Kitsap County DCD, WSU Kitsap Extension, WA Sea Grant, Great Peninsula Conservancy, Kitsap PUD, Mountaineers Foundation, Chico Salmon Park Stewardship Group, and the Suquamish Tribe.
