CK Community Campus partnership with Library District on future location

(Port Orchard, WA) - Kitsap County is working cooperatively with the Kitsap Regional Library (KRL) district discussing the feasibility of locating a new 8,000-10,000 square foot Silverdale library branch on the Central Kitsap Community Campus. Discussions are focusing on the location and cost associated with locating on the Campus and are expected to be completed in June.

Since the completion of the Haselwood Family YMCA in 2012, this public partnership with KRL is taking steps towards a new and re-energized redevelopment phase for the Campus. Kitsap County has committed to identifying a preliminary range of transportation mitigation and costs, as well as determining ground lease logistics. KRL has selected two location priorities on the Campus, which include the current community center and/or Sherriff precinct.

“We look forward to working with the Library district to identify information for both parties to make a knowledgeable location decision and to develop a work plan for future efforts that ensure a successful collaboration and transition into a new facility,” said Commissioner Linda Streissguth who represents the Central Kitsap district.

Once a location is determined many details must be worked out between both agencies before construction begins. Negotiations begin in June, after the preliminary information is received. Items to be negotiated include a review of existing spaces, and analysis of future meeting space needs, relocation of Sheriff’s precinct functions, detailed traffic mitigation analysis and future enhancement of public open spaces.

“It is not our intent to bring bulldozers to the Campus tomorrow," Commissioner Streissguth added. “We want to work cooperatively with KRL to outline a strategy towards measurable project milestones and identify mitigation needs that can be vetted with existing Campus tenants, the public, Central Kitsap Community Council and all other interested parties,” said Streissguth.
