Changes to the County's used motor oil and antifreeze recycling program

(Port Orchard, WA)  Changes are coming to the County's used motor oil and antifreeze recycling program due to Environmental Protection Agency regulations and enforcement activities in Washington State. The new rules are in effect at all the County's recycling and garbage facilities.

These are the new requirements to recycle used antifreeze and used motor oil.

Used Motor Oil

  • Only used motor oil from personal motor vehicles will be allowed
  • Hydraulic and automatic transmission fluids will no longer be accepted
  • Customer must know the source of their oil
  • Customer must sign a declaration form stating it contains no contaminants, other than what occurs during use as motor oil. Besides other outside contaminants, the oil must not contain Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB’s).
  • Limit of 5 gallons per customer, per day

Antifreeze

  • Only antifreeze and used antifreeze/water mixtures will be accepted
  • Limit of 5 gallons per customer, per day

If your used motor oil or antifreeze is not accepted at a recycling and garbage facility, you may take it to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, located at 5551 SW Imperial Way, Bremerton WA. It is open for homeowner waste Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a 50 gallon limit for all material. If you have more than 50 gallons, call Kitsap 1 at 360.337.5777 to make an appointment.

If your used motor oil or antifreeze comes from a business, non-profit, or other non-homeowner source, call Kitsap 1 at 360.337.5777 or register online at www.kitsapgov.com/sw/sqg.htm.
