Celebrate Suquamish! Community Open House and Clean-up this weekend

(Port Orchard, WA)  Celebrate Suquamish!, an open house and community clean-up, takes place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the United Church of Christ, 18732 Division Avenue NE, at the corner of Division and Geneva streets in Suquamish. This annual gathering, sponsored and coordinated by the Suquamish Citizens Advisory Committee, features representatives from Kitsap County departments and local environmental organizations who will have informational booths set up and staff available to provide details on community projects and planning. Local craftsman and small businesses will also participate. Taking place the weekend after Earth Day, the event also recognizes and promotes ways to encourage lifestyles that impact the Earth the least.

Participants include Kitsap County Public Works, Parks and Community Development; Washington State University Extension Office programs including Master Gardeners and Rain Water Mentors; Waste Management; and environmental organizations such as the Friends of Miller Bay, Great Peninsula Conservancy, the Suquamish Garden Club and the Suquamish Farmers’ Market.

The annual Suquamish Clean-up also begins at 10 a.m. but ends before noon to allow time to enjoy the open house. Volunteers are needed to assist in picking up trash along downtown Suquamish streets. Meet at the United Church of Christ at 10 a.m. Trash bags and safety vests will be provided.
