Candidate filing begins May 12

PORT ORCHARD – Filing for office has never been easier thanks to Kitsap County’s online candidate filing system. With online filing, candidates may submit their forms electronically and pay filing fees using a credit card. Online filing also allows candidates to submit their voters’ pamphlet statements and photos from the comfort of home using the internet.

“Last year nearly 70 percent of candidates used the online candidate filing system,” said Kitsap County Elections Manager Dolores Gilmore. “We expect that trend to continue in 2014 as more candidates learn of this convenient option.”

Online filing begins at 9 a.m. on May 12 and is available until 4 p.m. on May 16. Candidates may also file in person at the Kitsap County Auditor – Elections Division Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 12–16.

Candidates may also submit their filings by mail. All filing fees are due by the close of filing, 5 p.m., May 18, and are non-refundable. The deadline to withdraw is 5 p.m., May 19.

Kitsap County Elections provides a comprehensive Candidate and Campaign guidebook which is available online and at the Auditor’s Office.

“The annual guidebook is just one of the many resources available to prospective candidates and their campaigns,” Kitsap County Auditor Walter E. Washington said. “I encourage all candidates to visit our website and contact our office to take advantage of all of the options available to them.”
