Strategic innovations explored at West Sound Technology summit
Apple Inc. leader, Congressman Kilmer featured speakers

(Port Orchard, WA)  Technology is transforming student learning and achievement, but is state education policy keeping up? West Sound Technology Association will explore that question October 16 at the annual Western Washington Summit 2014. The program takes place 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Chief Kitsap Hall of the Clearwater Casino, Suquamish. Check-in and a lunch buffet begins at 10:30 a.m. Pre-registration is preferred.

The focus of the summit is a discussion on the opportunities and challenges Washington schools face as educators strive to enhance learning for all students. Keynote speaker Renee Radcliff Sinclair, leader of strategic initiatives for Apple Inc. and a former long-time Washington state Representative, will share her perspectives on the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, education and technology. Other speakers include Congressman Derek Kilmer; Dr. David Mitchell, president of Olympic College; and Charles Keating, director of West Sound Technology Association.

Kitsap County is a business member of the association. Director of the county’s Information Services, Bud Harris, serves on West Sound’s advisory council. “We at Kitsap County support WSTA because they provide value-added services and information for the greater good of our community,” Harris noted. “Many items come together in making Kitsap County a wonderful place to ‘Live, Work, and Play,’ and virtually all services that help to evolve and sustain our community connect back to technology. We truly appreciate the Keatings’ somewhat endless energy in keeping WSTA vibrant.”

WSTA’s goal is to educate and promote innovation, technology and entrepreneurship throughout western Puget Sound. An event focusing on participation in global Entrepreneurship Week takes place November 20 in Poulsbo.

For details and registration on both events, go to or call 206.984.3509. WSTA typically meets the third Thursday of each month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Poulsbo City Hall Chambers..
