Avoid visiting Olympic View Transfer Station Sunday 10/26 through Monday 11/3
Waste processing will be impacted while new compactor is installed

(Port Orchard, WA)  Kitsap County is asking that the public avoid self-haul visits to the Olympic View Transfer Station (OVTS) from October 26 to November 3, 2014. During that time period, a new waste compactor will be installed, replacing one that has been in place for over twelve years and has compacted over 2 million tons of Kitsap County’s garbage. Once operating, the new compactor will allow more efficient onsite waste processing by compacting 30 ton waste bales using an operating pressure of 2700 psi.

“During this installation period, Waste Management’s ability to process waste will be significantly limited” said Transfer Systems Manager, Marshon Coppinger. “Because of this, there will be more congestion and lines will likely be very long.”

The County strongly encourages everyone to create less waste during this time and reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible. Set aside the waste you do produce and postpone your visit to OVTS until the work is complete. If disposal of your waste cannot wait during this time, the County’s drop off Recycling and Garbage Facilities (RAGFs) will be open during their regularly scheduled operating hours. Be aware that disposal rates at the RAGFs are higher in some cases and are calculated by volume instead of weight.  Click here for more information.
