Kitsap County can help your business conserve resources

(Port Orchard, WA) - Kitsap County is committed to environmental stewardship and resource conservation. With this commitment in mind, the County developed and continues to offer the Waste Wise @ Work program to help businesses and institutions “green” their operations. Key components of the Waste Wise @ Work program include free technical assistance as well as a recognition program for qualifying businesses.

All businesses and institutions in Kitsap County are eligible for free technical assistance and tools designed to help conserve resources, reduce waste, and increase recycling. Technical assistance offerings include onsite assistance from a recycling specialist, recycling containers, and recycling kits to help with employee education. While supplies last, businesses that implement or expand their current recycling program may request up to 10 recycling containers with signs that describe what is recyclable. Onsite waste evaluations provide conservation strategy recommendations and tips for reducing waste, and the recycling kits include information about local recycling options.

The program is provided by Kitsap County Public Works Solid Waste Division, and is funded in part through a grant from Washington State Department of Ecology. About 150 businesses throughout Kitsap County have requested assistance with recycling and waste reduction since the program’s inception. Businesses that qualify can apply for the County’s “Waste Wise @ Work” recognition program and will receive window clings as well as be eligible for the “Waste Wise @ Work Business of the Year” award. Online applications are available:
