Free golf at Village Greens re-opening March 9

(Port Orchard, WA) - The Village Greens Golf Course, in Port Orchard, will re-open for the 2015 season on Monday, March 9 with FREE GOLF for everyone who attends this day. The course will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Guests will be eligible to win prizes by participating in a variety of golf contests. In addition, Bruce Weir, PGA golf professional, will offer free instructional clinics at intervals throughout the day.  Weir, who also provides the merchandise at the course, has over 35 years experience as a PGA golf professional, including holding the positions of Assistant Golf Professional at Lake Padden Golf Course in Bellingham, Monroe Golf Course, and Everett Golf Course, as well as Head Golf Professional at Cascade Golf Course in North Bend. To supplement Weir’s schedule, the Parks Department is seeking a second golf instructor who can teach more often.  Interested golf instructors should contact Superintendent of Operations, Billie Schmidt, at the Parks Department at 360.337.5350.

Village Greens Golf Course is located at 2298 Fircrest Drive Southeast, Port Orchard, across from the Orchard Heights Elementary School.  March hours at the course will be 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., Wednesdays through Mondays. The course will be closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. The course, owned and operated by Kitsap County Parks Department, is a public 18 hole executive golf course with a covered driving range, putting and chipping greens.  Rental clubs and pull carts are available. “The Village Greens Golf Course is ideal for families, new golfers, and anyone who wants to play 18 holes in under 3 hours,” said Larry Gilhuly, USGA consultant.  More information about the course can be found at
