Doo for Your Success
(Bremerton, WA) - Kitsap County Parks Department
provided 520 yards of free aged composted manure to the public at the annual
Doo for You program in March. The annual Doo For You program, hosted at the
County Fairgrounds, was part of the Kitsap Conservation District’s annual
event which included tree disbursement and manure distribution for area
gardeners and farmers. The manure is collected from the county fair each
year and composts for 6 months on a concrete slab at the Fairgrounds before
being distributed to the public.
County officials say approximately 60 yards of material still remains and
the public is welcome to it if they contact the parks office first. “We will
open the gate and they can take what they want when the facility is open if
they load it themselves with buckets, but if they want assistance loading
into a truck bed or trailer, they need to schedule that with the department.
The phone number to call is 360.337.5350,” officials said.
Recycling this material is vital for the Fair and a bonus to the community.
It needs to leave the Fairgrounds to make room each year for the manure that
will come with the animals in August. The public saves money by receiving
free garden enhancing composted manure. Similar to the Zoo Doo programs at
the Puget Sound area zoos, this is a win-win for the community and the
Kitsap County Parks Department’s mission is to provide quality of life
enhancing opportunities through the management of natural areas and
specialized facilities, foster community stewardship, and offer an
outstanding service-oriented environment. For more information about Doo For
