Golfers flock to Village Greens Golf Course for free golf

(Port Orchard, WA) - The Village Greens Golf Course, in Port Orchard, opened for the season on March 9th and hosted 142 golfers, on a foggy day that finally turned sunny around 2pm. PGA Golf Professional, Bruce Weir, provided free clinics focusing on the long game and short game. Each clinic was received well by the attendees, who in many cases had either never taken a lesson, or hadn’t taken one in over 20 years. Ninety golfers participated in Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin contests. Winners will receive a certificate for a foursome of golf at the course. Course officials are hoping that the high number of golfers out for opening day (over double from last year’s event) will continue throughout the season. Weir said, “It seems if the weather is good in the spring and people come out to golf, they stay for the season.”

Village Greens Golf Course is located at 2298 Fircrest Drive Southeast, Port Orchard, across from Orchard Heights Elementary School. March hours at the course are 8:00am-5:45pm Wednesdays through Mondays. The course is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. The course, owned and operated by Kitsap County Parks Department, is a public 18 hole executive golf course with a covered driving range, putting and chipping greens. Rental clubs and pull carts are available. Monthly memberships and driving range punch cards are also available. The course is also available for tournaments and events. “The Village Greens Golf Course is ideal for families, new golfers, and anyone who wants to play 18 holes in under 3 hours,” said Larry Gilhuly, USGA consultant.
