Fairgrounds equestrian arena roof project underway

The Kitsap County Fairgrounds Lower Equestrian Arena Roof construction is underway. The 33,800 square foot roof, funded by a $500,000 grant that the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede’s Mini-Horse Superintendent, Ron Gascoyne received from the Boand Family Foundation in June of 2014, began construction September 28. Approval from the county to receive the roof as a gift was given in the spring of 2015. Construction was then delayed until fall so as not to interfere with the County Fair. Construction is estimated by the contractor to take about four months.

The covered and lit arena, which will be named the Harry and Jayne Boand Equestrian Arena, is projected to bring in a variety of events such as barrel racing, dressage, and horse training events throughout the entire year.
