Commissioners resume deliberation of fireworks ordinance
(Port Orchard, WA) The Kitsap County Board of County
Commissioners will resume deliberations Monday on an ordinance amending
Chapter 10.48 of the Kitsap County Code, creating the authority for
Commissioners to adopt a resolution limiting the sale and use of fireworks
during periods of drought or other emergencies.
Deliberations for the new ordinance will take place during the next regular
business meeting at 5:30 p.m. May 23 in the Kitsap County Administration
Building, 619 Division Street, Port Orchard. Commissioners took public
testimony on a draft of the ordinance Feb. 22, 2016. At the Monday meeting,
they will deliberate the final draft and decide whether to approve the
ordinance. No further public testimony will be taken.
Similar measures are already in place for the cities of Bainbridge Island,
Poulsbo and Bremerton. If the Kitsap County ordinance is approved, it will
not affect the sale or discharge of fireworks in 2016 as provisions of the
ordnance cannot be applied until one year after adoption.
