Work underway on Glenwood Road improvements
(Port Orchard, WA) -
Work begins Monday, October 3 on a project to improve
safety on Glenwood Road SW between SW JH Road to SW Wildwood Road. Traffic
will be restricted to one lane during the project. A pilot car and flaggers
will direct alternating traffic through the work zone. Motorists can expect
significant delays—up to 15 minutes—in the immediate vicinity of the work,
Monday through Friday. Immediate access for emergency vehicles is provided
throughout the project.
The project has two phases. During the first phase, Sound Excavation will
clear and grub vegetation in the project area. Work on the project will be
suspended in mid-November for five months while Puget Sound Energy,
CenturyLink, and Wave Broadband relocate utilities.
During the second phase, which begins next spring, the contractor will widen
the existing roadway to accommodate 11-foot travel lanes, install 6-foot
shoulders (5-foot paved and 1-foot gravel) on both sides of the road, and
make horizontal and vertical curve corrections to make the road safer.
Stormwater improvements are also part of the second phase of the project.
The second phase of the project is expected to be complete mid-summer 2017.
The work is being done by Sound Excavation, Inc. under a $1.5 million
construction contract. Their scheduled normal working hours are 7 a.m. to 6
