Ribbon cutting set for December 4

(Keyport, WA) - Kitsap County Public Works is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at Central Park in Keyport on Sunday, December 4 at 2 p.m. Join us and celebrate the completion of the Keyport Sewer and Stormwater Upgrades project and the reopening of Central Park to the community.

Kitsap County Public Works Sewer Division began planning for a replacement of the sewer forcemain and pump stations in Keyport in 2013. The Stormwater Division recognized an opportunity to implement water quality retrofits at the same time. The result is a joint project improving both water quality and sewer system performance while enhancing the community landscape.

A key element of the sewer upgrades was the removal of Pump Station 16, located on the beach in Keyport. Pump Station 16 served a small portion of Keyport and received wastewater from the City of Poulsbo via the Lemolo Inverted Siphons under Liberty Bay. A new sanitary sewer line and upgrades to existing Pump Station 67 in Central Park revamp the way wastewater is handled once it reaches Keyport.

The project also incorporates green stormwater solutions on Washington Street including permeable paver parking lanes, corner curb-bulb rain garden planters, and swales, as well as piping and storm drains to improve runoff water quality to Liberty Bay.
