Special Assault Unit

The Special Assault Unit reviews and aggressively prosecutes domestic violence offenses, sex offenses, and offenses with child victims consistent with the standards imposed by law. SAU provides specialized victim services and intensive offender prosecution in all cases involving domestic violence and child and adult victims of physical or sexual assault. Significant resources are appropriated to hold domestic violence and sex offense perpetrators accountable for their crimes by reaching swift, just, and efficient dispositions that consider our desire to prevent the victim from having to testify against the perpetrator and the ability to obtain treatment for the defendant. SAU also works tirelessly to promote community efforts to prevent domestic violence offenses, sex offenses, and offenses with child victims while promoting victim advocacy.
