Road Vacations and Tax Title Property

The road vacation statute RCW 36.87 allows Kitsap County Board of Commissioners to vacate a County road.  The County will consider vacating a  road if it is deemed there is no present or future use to the citizens of Kitsap County and the departments and agencies of Kitsap County.

Anyone who desires the vacation of a County road may submit a petition to the County through Public Works and it will be processed in a consistent, expeditious, fair and impartial manner. The Applicant must:

  • submit a petition and location map
  • pay the fee at the time of application
  • notify all abutting property owners by certified mail

Public Works will process and prepare a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners for approval or denial of the petition.  This process includes  verification of land ownership, review of comments from nearby property owners and a public hearing.

  • submit a petition and location map
  • pay the fee at the time of application
  • notify all abutting property owners by certified mail
  • in some cases, obtain a commitment for title insurance

Public Works will process and prepare a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners for approval or denial of the petition.  This process includes  verification of land ownership, review of comments from nearby property owners and a public hearing.
