The Storm Report – January 30, 2006 @ 9:00 am

Public Works crews were busy overnight Sunday. Heavy rain contributed to some road restrictions and have crews looking at others.

  • Several calls reported water over the roadway. Motorists should always use extreme caution during flooding and heavy rain. Most of those areas have receded this morning.

  • Silverdale Way, between Myhre and Randall, was flooded overnight. Water levels have receded there and the road is open.

  • One lane is blocked as a result of a slide on Seabeck Highway, about ¼ mile North of Seabeck Elementary.

  • Another slide partially blocks a lane on Alaska Avenue, just south of Center, in South Kitsap.

  • Two slides on Illahee Road, just south of the bridge in Brownsville, were contained to the roadside and did not affect traffic there.

  • A slide on Stavis Bay Road, about 750 feet west of the bridge, restricted a lane overnight. The slide has been cleared and both lanes are open this morning.

Engineering and road crews are inspecting slide areas this morning. More information about these conditions will be reported this afternoon.

Maintenance crews from the County’s Stormwater and Roads Divisions are spending today clearing roadway debris, and keeping ditches, culverts, and storm drains working properly.

Phonebooks have clogged culverts in at least three areas in South Kitsap. An independent phone book producer distributed phonebooks by placing them in plastic bags and leaving them at the bottom of resident’s mailboxes. In some areas these books have washed down ditches and blocked culverts. In others they have become a litter problem. County officials are seeing what can be done, if anything, about that type of delivery.

We will update this information this afternoon by 3:00 p.m.
