Furniture Amnesty Day is Sunday, April 23 from 8 am to 4 pm. This ONE-DAY ONLY event is held at the Olympic View Transfer Station (OVTS) in Port Orchard, across Highway 3 from Bremerton National Airport. See the link below for driving directions.

Residential customers may bring the following unusable furniture to OVTS for FREE disposal during this event:

  • Bookcases
  • Tables / Chairs
  • Desks
  • Patio Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • File Cabinets
  • Entertainment Centers
  • Sofas
  • Sleeper sofas
  • Beds
  • Dressers
  • Baby Furniture

Garbage, electronics (computer monitors, TV's etc), appliances, and household hazardous waste will not be accepted at this event.  All loads are pre-screened on site.

“This program helps Kitsap County residents get rid of large household items that fill their basements, porches, and garages. It also familiarizes residents with our Olympic View Transfer Station, which offers convenient, low cost disposal for furniture and other bulky items year-round,” said Gretchen Olsen, Kitsap County Solid Waste Division Manager. Olsen adds that another program goal is to reduces the number of items illegally dumped along roadways.

Residents should be sure the items they bring for disposal are not in good enough condition for reuse by local charities. The Solid Waste Division homepage at www.kitsapgov.com/sw has a complete list of locations to donate good, usable items. Furniture that is too good to toss can also be listed on the www.2good2toss.com website, sponsored by the WA State Department of Ecology and other Washington counties. Residents can list items at no cost. All items listed must sell for $99 or less. Many items are free!

Residents are reminded to secure and cover all loads. Driving with an uncovered and/or unsecured load in your vehicle makes you subject to a traffic violation and a fine.

When hauling materials in a truck bed or trailer, use these tips to pack items:

  • Lighter goes lower.  Put lighter weight things on the bottom.
  • Use a sturdy plastic or canvas tarp to cover your load.  Tie it down with rope, wire, bungee cords, or straps.
  • Tie larger items directly to your vehicle or trailer.
  • Always double check your load and NEVER OVERLOAD!

This event is a cooperative effort hosted by Kitsap County Public Works and Waste Management, Inc.
