Kitsap County Participates in Change a Light Campaign

(Port Orchard) – Kitsap County asks you to “Change a Light” by participating in the 2006 Change a Light Campaign sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and Office Depot.

The members of Board of County Commissioners are encouraging all county staff to change the most frequently used light in their home to an energy efficient compact fluorescent bulb. This small step to reduce energy use and protect our environment will also save money. According to NaCO, an energy efficient light bulb uses 2/3 less energy, generates 70% less heat and lasts up to ten times longer. Replacing a 100-watt incandescent light bulb with a 32-watt energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulb will provide the same brightness but will SAVE at least $30 in energy costs over the life of just that one bulb.

“ We’re asking all Kitsap County employees to take a moment and fill out the online pledge,” says Jan Angel, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “Reducing energy usage is important to us. We hope by setting an example, residents in Kitsap County will take the pledge and change a bulb, too.”

Help Kitsap County become a top pledge collector and earn national recognition through the first-ever County Change a Light Award. Take the pledge online today by simply going to www.naco.org/changealight

After pledging to change a light at www.naco.org/changealight, participants are prompted to go to Office Depot’s website to receive a $1.50 discount on an energy-efficient light bulb purchase.

Commissioner Angel reminds us that with summer nearly over, darker fall and winter days are right around the corner----so switch out a bulb before you switch on the lights!

Pledge today at www.naco.org/changealight. The program ends September 30.
