Kitsap County Students Invited to Join Poster Contest

Students in public, private or home schools grades K-8 are encouraged to enter the America Recycles Day Poster Contest. Artwork from thirteen grade-level winners and 7 honorable mention winners is included in the 2007 full color calendar. The calendar is developed by Kitsap County Public Works to celebrate recycling and choosing recycled products as a way to conserve resources.

“Each year we get about 400 entries,” says Terri Washburn, the local America Recycles Day coordinator. “Selecting the winning entries is getting harder. Our students' artwork is wonderful as they present their understanding of the importance of individual actions such as recycling or choosing to buy recycled-content products. They realize natural resources and energy are conserved each time the things they recycle are remanufactured into a new product.”

All entries must be drawn horizontally on 8.5 x 11 inch paper and cannot have the student’s name on the front. Each entry must include a release form that can be found at www.kitsapgov.com/sw. Entries must be received no later than 4 pm, October 20th to be considered.

Entries should be mailed to America Recycles Day Poster Contest, 614 Division St MS- 27, Port Orchard, 98366. Drop-off delivery can be made to the Kitsap County Public Works Annex at 8600 Imperial Way SW in the Olympic View Industrial Park (across Hwy. 3 from the Bremerton National Airport), or the third floor of the Kitsap County Public Works Building at 507 Austin Drive in Port Orchard.
