Scoopy Doo Joins Sinclair Inlet Clean-up
Pet owners reminded to clean-up, too

(Port Orchard) – Scoopy Doo, a friendly mascot that promotes proper pet waste disposal, joins dedicated volunteers in downtown Bremerton this Saturday to help clean Sinclair Inlet . Groups are meeting in Bremerton and Port Orchard at 11:00 a.m. to start the clean-up.

  • Bremerton : Downtown Waterfront Boardwalk near Harborside Conference Center parking garage entrance
  • Port Orchard: Southern Shoreline Volunteers meet at Annapolis ferry dock kiosk

Volunteers of all ages work to improve the Sinclair Inlet shoreline.  Some participants, however, may surprise you. SCUBA divers remove marine debris from the waters near downtown Bremerton , while their landlubber counterparts are joined by Scoopy Doo to remind people that pet waste is also litter.

Scoopy Doo is a friendly mascot for proper pet waste disposal, loaned to Kitsap County Surface and Stormwater Management from the Pacific Shellfish Institute in Olympia . The giant dog encourages pet owners to sign the Scoopy Doo Pledge and properly dispose of pet waste for a clean and healthy Puget Sound .

Kitsap County Surface and Stormwater Management received a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to increase public awareness about sources of bacteria pollution in the Sinclair and Dyes Inlet watersheds. Pet waste left on the ground washes into the storm drain system when it rains, carrying harmful bacteria, viruses and pathogens to our local waterways. To reduce water pollution and associated public health risks, pet owners are encouraged to pick up, double-bag, and throw pet waste in the garbage.
