Support Services Division

The Support Services Division is comprised of the Records Unit, Civil Unit, Reception/Dispatch, and the Support Services staff in Silverdale and Kingston.  The Support Services Division also oversees the Courthouse Security Officers.

Records Unit

The records unit is responsible for the processing of all reports generated by Sheriff's Office personnel.  They are staffed with a records supervisor and six support-staff..  They maintain all Sheriff's Office and Corrections Division records.  In the year 2000 they processed over 22,500 reports; over 2,500 of those were referred to the Prosecutors Office for criminal charges.  Additionally, they handle all requests for reports from victims, other police agencies, and insurance companies.

The Records Unit also handles the processing and issuing of concealed weapon permits.

Civil Unit

The Civil Unit is responsible for the processing of all civil processes from the courts.  These include domestic violence orders, harassment orders, subpoenas, writs and evictions.  The unit has a lead person, 2 support staff, 2 civil process servers, and 1 deputy sheriff.  The unit processes the orders from the court and then attempts to serve the papers on the individuals involved.  The deputy is also responsible for the handling of evictions.  The Civil Unit processed over 17,000 orders last year.

Reception/Dispatch

The Reception/Dispatch Unit are the individuals you meet when you come to the Sheriff's Office in Port Orchard.  They are able to handle your questions, complaints and many other public needs. They also take minor activity reports by phone, such as small thefts and vandalism where there are no suspects.  This frees up the deputies to handle higher priority calls.

Courthouse Security Unit

The Courthouse Security Unit consists of personnel who staff the main entrances of  the Kitsap County Courthouse, the juvenile facility and the district court in Poulsbo.  They operate the detection devices at the entrances to keep weapons from entering the facilities.  Last year they prevented over 5,000 knives and 97 guns from entering the buildings and courts.  Most of the unit are retired police officers.
