Driftwood Keys Stormwater Improvements
For regional stormwater planning projects, the Surface and Stormwater
Management Program uses in-house staff and consultants to identify capital
needs in specific geographic areas. These areas typically include places
where flooding and/or water quality are known to be problems or areas where
zoning indicates the potential for increased land use densities. After a
study of the area has been completed, specific projects are identified and
prioritized. These projects are then moved into the Capital Construction
element for final design, property acquisition, and construction.
Project Summary
This geographic region is predominantly single-family residences built
without stormwater detention/retention or water quality devices. The
majority of the region drains to the Hood Canal through Coon and Sheltered
Bay. The goal of the study is to identify specific capital improvement
projects to lessen flooding and improve water quality. The study is included
in the 2008 capital budget.
Project Boundaries
The boundaries of the project area are the plat of
Driftwood Keys and the 12 additions.

Project Status (March 2008)
Questionnaires were mailed to approximately 685 property owners and
residents within the project boundaries in first week of February. The
purpose of the questionnaires and a future public meeting is to gather
information about flooding and drainage problems from residents and property
owners within the project boundaries. This information will then be used to
identify and prioritize appropriate drainage solutions.
Brown and Caldwell Engineering and Environmental consultants was selected as
the consultant for the project.
