Kitsap County Announces 1st
Annual Waste Wise at Work Business of the Year
In 2012, Kitsap County started the Waste Wise @
Work program to recognize local businesses that reduce waste, purchase
recycled products, and recycle. The County reviewed all applications
submitted and chose the top business as the “Waste Wi$e @ Work Business of
the Year.” Kitsap Sun is recognized for their excellence in reducing waste,
recycling, and buying recycled products.

Waste Division Announces Earth Day Award Winners
The annual Earth Day Awards presentation took place April 22nd at the Board of County Commissioners regular
televised meeting in Port
Orchard. The 2013 Earth Day Awards are presented to individual
citizens, organizations, schools, and businesses for their innovative
environmental programs or projects.

New Disposal Fees Adopted for
County Garbage Facilities
New disposal fees will go into effect July 1, 2013, for the Olympic View
Transfer Station and the county-owned Recycling and Garbage Facilities at
Hansville, Silverdale, and Olalla. The new fees reflect the true costs of
providing these services, as shown during a recent study completed by the
Public Works Department’s Solid Waste Division.

Health District work tirelessly to deter and clean up
litter and improperly disposed garbage in the community.
The Clean Kitsap Program – a program administered by the
County Solid Waste Division – coordinates the cleanup of
hundreds of miles of County roadsides every year,
