Corrugated Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard has a wavy later in the middle of two flat layers. Flatten.

Over 70% of all corrugated cardboard is recovered for recycling. Paper mills love this material – which recyclers call “old corrugated containers” or OCC. It keeps much of its strength in the papermaking process. Recycling 1 ton of cardboard saves 3 tons of wood pulp. It saves the equivalent of 3,000-kilowatt hours of energy or 23% of the energy needed to process 1 ton of corrugated cardboard from fresh wood pulp.

COMMERCIAL: Companies with large amounts of cardboard should consider signing up for commercial pick-up. Your company probably has too much cardboard to take to a drop off location if:

  • You use a panel truck to deliver it to a drop-off location listed below
  • You are making more than one trip per day.

Remember to cover your load when transporting to reduce highway litter. It’s the law!
