Solid Waste Mission Statement

Our primary duties are to maintain, comply with, regularly update and oversee implementation of the Kitsap County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan (CSWMP) and the Moderate Risk Waste Management Plan (MRWMP). We will oversee cost-effective implementation of the CSWMP and the MRWMP. We believe it is important to support the staffs' professional development so each member is a resource to the community and to the Department in their area of expertise.

The Solid Waste Division was established by Kitsap County to be in compliance with the RCW Chapter 70.95.020 and Chapter 70.105.007 which describes protection of the public health and environment. The Solid Waste Division maintains and operates the Hansville Drop Box Facility, Poulsbo Recycling Center and the Moderate Risk Waste Collection Facility, provides environmental monitoring and maintenance of closed County-owned landfills, coordinates services offered at drop boxes in Olalla, Silverdale, Poulsbo, Bainbridge Island and Hansville, and provides for the development and implementation of the Solid Waste Management Plan and the Moderate Risk Waste Management Plan (MRWMP). The Solid Waste Division is self-supportive from the user fees and grants.

Solid Waste Division Personnel

The Solid Waste Division has six distinct program areas:

• Solid waste administration, planning, and education coordination

• Hansville and Poulsbo Recycling & Garbage Facilities operations

• Waste reduction and recycling

• Transfer station management

• Moderate risk waste

• Closed landfill oversight
