Writers needed for ballot measure arguments

PORT ORCHARD – The Kitsap County Auditor’s Office – Elections Division seeks volunteers to write arguments against either of two measures appearing on the November 3, 2020, General Election ballot.

One measure is a 20-year $58.3 million bond measure to pay for construction improvements to Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue facilities. The other is a 20-year $39.5 million bond to pay for construction improvements to South Kitsap Fire and Rescue facilities.

According to Revised Code of Washington 29A.32.280, districts proposing the measures are responsible for appointing committees to write arguments for and against each measure. The two districts have not appointed committees to write arguments against the measures, so the County Auditor is seeking individuals to serve on those committees.

The General Election Online Voters' Guide includes official ballot titles, explanatory statements, arguments "for" and "against" each measure, and rebuttals.

Committee members do not have to be residents of the district in order to draft arguments. Interested parties should contact the Elections Division by 4:30 p.m., Aug 17. Please email auditor@co.kitsap.wa.us or call 360-337-7280 if interested. Arguments are due by 4:30 p.m., Aug. 21, 2020.

Resolutions submitted by the districts for each measure are at the Resolutions page on the Kitsap County Auditor’s website.

The format for writing arguments can be found at https://online.flowpaper.com/752f071c/CandidateGuidelines2020Web/#page=16
