Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

​FMLA provides eligible employees up to 12 work weeks of unpaid, job, and benefit protected leave in a designated 12-month period.

Eligible Requirements

    1. Worked a minimum of 12-months
    2. Worked at least 1,250 hours during the previous 12-month period
    3. Have a qualifying event
    4. FMLA and WFLA will run concurrent, if applicable

​FMLA Procedures

Covered Members: Employee, Spouse, Child, and Parent

Reason for Leave:

  • Employee's own serious condition in which the employee is unable to perform the functions of their job.
  • Care for a family member with a serious condition.
  • For birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care.
  • Due to a qualifying exigency arising out from the employee's family member is a military member on "covered active duty."
  • To care for a covered service member with a serious injury or illness.

FMLA and WFLA will run concurrent unless one of the following situations occur:

  • During pregnancy, WFLA will not run concurrent with Pregnancy Disability. FMLA may run concurrent with Pregnancy Disability.
  • Care for Registered Domestic Partner is only covered under WFLA
  • WFLA does not run concurrent for absences under "Military Family Leave."

Pay: Leave is available in a paid or unpaid status.

Benefits: This leave protects continued medical coverage.
