SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisors) Volunteers

Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisors (SHIBA) volunteers help consumers make informed decisions about health insurance, including Medicare. We train SHIBA volunteers to educate, assist and advocate for consumers about their rights and options. Volunteers receive training, guidance and ongoing support through the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner and the local SHIBA office in the Kitsap County Division of Aging and Long-Term Care. No experience is necessary.

We serve consumers through seminars, local clinics, one-on-one counseling over the phone or in person. Volunteers may also give public presentations, participate in outreach activities or provide clerical support. To learn more about volunteer opportunities with Kitsap County's SHIBA program, contact Jennifer Calvin-Myers at the Division of Aging and Long-Term Care,, (360) 337-5700 or (800) 562-6418.
