Vanora Washburn, 17, was crowned Miss Kitsap Fair & Stampede 2018 on October 21 at the Kitsap Fairgrounds and Events Center. Vanora is the daughter of Doug and Kim Washburn from Poulsbo Washington. She will be a senior at Olympic high school this fall. After graduation, she plans to major in political science, then further her education and attend law school. Her career ambition is to become a Public Interest Lawyer.

Under the help and guidance of Matt Olson Training, Vanora is able to compete primarily in the American Quarter Horse Association doing some of her favorite events such as ranch riding, reining, showmanship, barrel racing and the working cow horse. She also competes in local Washington State Horseman shows and Jr. Rodeos.

“Becoming Miss Kitsap Fair and Stampede has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life! Between the friends I have made, the places I have traveled, the experiences I have had, and the amazing Queen Board I have gotten to work with… this year has been a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

As a role model and mentor, she hopes to encourage other girls to pursue their dreams while promoting and representing the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede, the sport of Rodeo and the western way of life.

Miss Katie Kitsap 2018
Payton Burlingame-Avery, 7 years old, and was chosen as the 2018 Miss Katie Kitsap, mascot for the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede, in October 2017.

Payton is the daughter of Jon and Chelsea Burlingame of Key Peninsula, Washington, and Shiloah and Eron Avery of Port Orchard, Washington. As Miss Katie Kitsap, Payton has gained hands-on experience by shadowing Miss Kitsap Fair & Stampede as they promote the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede and the sport of Rodeo!

Payton’s favorite color is blue and when she grows up, she wants to be a professional barrel racer. Also, she would like to own a farm where she can teach kids about farm life!
