Steps for Abestos Disposal

follow carefully

Step 1: Request an appointment

Appointments are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Step 2: Prepare materials

Asbestos-containing materials must be prepared properly according to type:

Friable Asbestos

Wet all asbestos-containing materials with water or a suitable non-hazardous wetting agent. Materials must be wet upon delivery. Double wrap all the materials in sturdy and leak-proof plastic bags (6-mil minimum). Seal each bag. Bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each. You must lift each package into a container without assistance from staff.

If larger pieces will not fit into a bag, double wrap the wet materials in heavy plastic sheeting (6-mil minimum) and seal the package with duct tape.

Non-Friable Asbestos (Shingles and Roofing)

Wet all asbestos-containing materials with water or a suitable non-hazardous wetting agent. Materials must be wet upon delivery. You do not need to bag non-friable asbestos (shingles and roofing).

Step 3: Attach required label

You must label each bag of friable asbestos with the Friable Asbestos Label.

You do not need to bag or label non-friable asbestos (shingles and roofing).

Step 4: Complete Shipment Report

You must complete and bring the Asbestos Waste Shipment Report for each load of asbestos you bring to Olympic View Transfer Station. This is a legal document, so you must write legibly. Use black or blue ink only.

Step 5: Deliver on schedule

Bring your asbestos materials and Asbestos Waste Shipment Report to Olympic View Transfer Station for your scheduled appointment. Be prepared to pay current asbestos disposal fees.
