County-wide Stage 1 Burn Ban declared
Due to the recent heat wave and dry conditions, the Kitsap County Fire Marshal in coordination with area Fire Chiefs has declared, effective 8:00AM Monday, 14 July 2014, a Stage 1 Burn Ban for Kitsap County which cancels all previously issued burn permits.  Contact your local fire district for info on allowed recreational burning... click here
Director's Administrative Interpretation of Code relative to Medical Marijuana dispensary activities in the Rural Industrial (RI) Zone
The Director determines that medical marijuana dispensaries and dispensary-like activities are not permitted in the RI zone.  The intent of the RI zone is to provide for small-scale light industrial, light manufacturing, recycling, mineral processing and resource-based goods production uses that are compatible with rural character.  The dispensary activities, currently engaged by Washington Jade, is subject to the linked Director's Interpretation...click here

Sign Code Update
Kitsap County is updating its sign code (Title 17 KCC) in a cooperative planning effort with countywide interest groups and individuals.  The purpose of this effort is to create a new sign code resulting in a predictable and flexible sign application process.  We anticipate that during the months of May, June and possibly July 2014, Kitsap County will be conducting work studies and hearings for the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners....click here

Public Hearing on Stormwater Code Revisions
Proposed stormwater code revisions are the subject of a Public Hearing hosted by the Kitsap County Planning Commission.  The public hearing is Tuesday, May 6 at the Kitsap County Administration Building (619 Division Street) in Port Orchard at 6PM...click here

DCD Provides Online Permit Center Training
DCD is hosting a series of training opportunities for customers using the Online Permit Center.  The first training will be held in Kitsap County Administration Building - Commissioners Chambers on Friday, February 21st at 2pm.  This session includes how to schedule and inquire about inspections, obtain general permit information, and register to access you own permits. View the flyer for details. Customers can also submit residential mechanical/plumbing and emergency repair applications online. To visit the Online Permit Center go to

Director's Administrative Interpretation on Postponement of Issuing Decisions, KCC 21.04.200(G)
In June 2012, the Board of County Commissioners adopted amendments to Title 21 KCC ‘Land Use and Development Procedures’ outlining timeframes for permit application review.  KCC 21.04.200.G is ambiguous as to whether a request under this section can only be requested just prior to the issuance of a decision or at some point earlier and whether this section can be invoked if an applicant had already received an extension under the other sections of KCC 21.04.200. The linked memo clarifies the application of this section.

Community Development (DCD) is open for limited services on Fridays starting May 10
Beginning May 10, 2013 DCD is open to the public for limited services on Fridays between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Services available include building permit submittal and issuance, Planner-of-the-Day (general inquiries), and building review questions and inspection coordination. The department is open for normal services at 9:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday and closes at 4:00 pm.

DCD Hours of Operation – Effective May 6, 2013
Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Director's Interpretation regarding Vacation Rentals clarifies how they may be used
