Our Mission is to work independently and through community partnerships to promote the well-being of older adults and adults with disabilities.

2018 Dennis Mahar Excellence in Action Award

Board Chair, Mari Van Court, Receives Award

On October 11, 2018 Mari Van Court, Chair of Kitsap County Division of Aging and Long Term Care Advisory Council, was awarded the 2018 Dennis Mahar Excellence in Action Award for an individual. She was acknowledged for her excellence in action:

- Leadership as Chair of Kitsap's Aging Advisory Council

- Community Educator to Older Americans and Family Caregivers

As Chair of the Advisory Council, Mari was instrumental in igniting the "Council into Action".  With her leadership, the Council transformed into a group of dynamic "community connectors". She provided opportunities and encouraged members to report monthly on their outreach activities at regular Council meetings.

Mari has unselfishly given presentations and workshops to communities, churches and other organizations throughout Kitsap County and portions of Pierce County and provided testimony to the state legislator on the impacts of caregiving.  She demonstrates courage as she shares the challenges and uncertainties of her own caregiving journey. Her non-judgmental and engaging style resonates with many community members unsure of where to turn. She provides a spotlight for the caregiver's journey.

Stacey Smith, Kitsap AAA's Administrator, states "I am thankful every day for Mari's action. She inspires me to be a better leader. I feel her support and acknowledge the difference she is making in my community.  She makes our phone ring!"

Mari and Dennis share a true purpose in challenging communities to "Be Better". They say it "like it is" and unite diverse audiences around (sometimes) controversial topics to improve processes, heighten community awareness, and begin community conversations.
