Prepare Your Materials at Home

To keep the line moving quickly, prep your materials at home:

  • Remove all tape and labels

  • Clean and dry

  • Sort by color

  • Sort by type

  • Limit one carload

  • Kitsap households only

  • No businesses, trailers, or box trucks

Accepted Foam Items

Clean and dry foam that easily breaks into small beads, like:

  • Packing peanuts

  • Blocks from packaging

  • Shipping coolers

  • Unstained takeout or meat trays

  • #6 foam or EPS (expanded polystyrene)

Not Accepted - Reuse or Trash

  • No soft or flexible foam (EPE, expanded polyethylene)

  • No hot tub covers or dock foam

  • No sealed foam

  • No insulation board or spray-in foam

  • No foil-lined foam

What happens to the collected styrofoam? Our vendor Styro Recycle LLC puts the foam into an extruder machine to compress it into "ingots." They sell the compacted foam to manufacturers of picture frames, eyeglass frames, clothes hangers, and more!

Bring Your Own Bag! Pop-Ups

Get a FREE reusable shopping bag at one of the locations below. Limit one per visitor as supplies last.

Reusable shopping bags are better for the environment than single-use bags. For that reason alone, we want to help people switch from single-use paper or plastic bags to reusable bags. We also want to help people prepare for the upcoming plastic bag bans in Kitsap County, Port Orchard, and Bremerton.

Lowe's Stores - String Light Recycling

Now through December 24, 2019, bring broken string lights to the customer service desk at Lowe's stores for free recycling.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

We have not yet selected a date for the summer 2020 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event. This annual event alternates between a City of Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap location. The 2020 event will be located in North Kitsap. We will publish event details in the spring.

Visit the Kitsap County Household Hazardous Waste Facility for year-round hazardous waste disposal.

City and Tribal Events

Some cities and tribes host neighborhood clean-up events or services for people who live within their city or tribal boundaries. Contact your city or tribe directly to ask about these events. Proof of residence is required.

Events include the City of Bremerton Beautify Bremerton yard waste event, City of Port Orchard Spring and Fall Clean Ups, and City of Poulsbo Residential Cleanup Dumpster service

Paper Shred Events

Shredded paper cannot go in your recycling bin, but you can recycle it at a paper shred event or kiosk! Businesses in Kitsap and Mason county occasionally sponsor free Community Paper Shred events. Check the LeMay Community Shred Event schedule to see if an event is scheduled near you. If there isn't an upcoming free event, learn about year-round paper shredding options.

Events listed here do not constitute an endorsement by Kitsap County. All listings are current when posted and are subject to change without notice.
